Zakarpattia Oblast is located in the western part of Ukraine, about 80% of the territory lies within the Carpathian Mountains, the highest point of Ukraine, Hoverla (2061 m.), Is located in Zakarpattia Oblast. The territory of Zakarpattia Oblast include the state boundary of Ukraine with Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Poland. Zakarpattia Oblast has a multi-ethnic population, in addition to the Ukrainians the region inhabited by Hungarians, Romanians, Russians, Romani and other minorities. The most common spoken language of the Zakarpattia Oblast is Ukrainian. About 50% of the territory of the Zakarpattia Oblast is occupied by forests, the subsoil of area is rich in sources of carbonic mineral waters which has curative properties. The economy of the Zakarpattia Oblast includes logging and timber processing enterprises, region has well developed touristic and health-recreational infrastructure.
